My Mama

My Mama... what can I say about a woman who always told me how wonderful I was, even when I certainly didn't feel that way. Mama Rosie always did little things that made me feel so special. She would watch my siblings, cousins, and I every Thursday. Lunch would usually consist of tuna fish sandwiches, which of course I hated. But she always remembered that, and would make me something special just for me. As I struggled with my weight as a teen, she offered to go to weight watchers with me. She was always such a support to me, and would pick me up every Wednesday to take me. She was always so excited when either of us had a loss (however small it was, what can I say, she loved her chocolate and peanut butter, and I love my pasta ). She made me laugh, because whenever she would lose a pound, she would say "we deserve a reward- how about a small meal from Burger King" (obviously weight watchers didn't work out so great for us--- only 16 points for a cheeseburger Mama). Every Sunday at my Mama and Papa's house always felt so special. She would always have enough food to feed an army. My cousins and I would play in the playroom while the adults usually hung around the table eating nuts, or hanging in the living room while my Papa watched golf. She would always put giant pieces of cake (which she had doctored up with peanut butter of course) on your plate. I will never forget our trip to Italy, and all of the limoncello she let me drink, and the wonderful once in a lifetime experience her and my Papa provided my cousin Mike and I. As I grew older and met my husband, she would call and say "how's it going with that nice Italian boy?" When I told her we were getting married, she said "you have a lucky groom". I loved every Wednesday night chat I had with her (she would usually call weekly). What I wouldn't give to get one last weekly phone call. Gino may have been the lucky groom, but I certainly feel like I'm one lucky granddaughter for having a grandmother like you. I love and miss you! Jillian
