Obituary for
Irene M Jamiel (Barthel)
Irene Jamiel was an exuberant woman. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend who was selfless, loyal, courageous, and adventuresome. Irene passed away quietly on August 3rd in Warren, RI.
Irene was born in Colmberg, Germany. She was the daughter of the late Marie & Leonhard Barthel. At the tender age of 16, she bravely left home for New York City where she served as the private chef for a prominent NY political family. While at the family's summer mansion in Newport, Chateau-sur-Mer, she met her late husband, Hirum A. Jamiel, and their life-long love story began.
Together, Irene and her husband built Jamiel Insurance Agency where the pair could seemingly always be found with Irene at her store-front desk greeting their friends and customers with her warm smile. Irene embraced her local East Bay community through her many acts of charity, as well as countless quiet gestures of kindness. A member of many organizations, Irene loved to serve others through the Kickemuit Grange, the Martha Washington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star - Treasurer Emeritus and with the Ladies of the Social Order of the Beauseant.
Those who knew her may recall that Irene was so often found decorating the interior and exterior of her office and home with flowers and festive decorations, as she kept the love of the holidays ever in her heart. Perhaps some of her most lasting memories may be found on the palates of the many who were fortunate enough to have dined with Irene on the many scrumptious gourmet and peasant meals alike, which she so adeptly and masterfully conjured up for the dining pleasure of others. So many of her meals were legendary and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
However, most of all, Irene was the beautiful and faithful wife of her beloved late husband, Hirum A. Jamiel, whom she now joins in eternal life after just recently seeing her beloved laid to rest. She is survived by her dedicated and loving children Heidi H. Jamiel, Kurt H. Jamiel along with his wife Mary, Christina (Tina) Minicucci and her husband Steven, as well as by her son Hirum A. Jamiel, II and his wife Carolina. Irene was ever so proud of her surviving grandchildren Christopher, Zachary, and Victoria Minicucci along with Hirum III, Matias, and Massimo Jamiel. She also leaves behind a sister Christine Emmert of Germany with her husband Andy, and now joins her late brothers Gerhard and Leonhard Barthel.
